This past weekend numerous band participated in the blue festival while crowds sat listened and danced under the shade of the surrounding trees. A cool breeze blew off the river across the Harriet Tubman Park. This event was a wonderful success.
The Catholic Cemeteries held the 51st annual Memorial Day Mass on Monday, May 31, 2010 at 10 am at the All Saints Cemetery in Wilmington, Delaware. Along with a tribute to all our veterans, this years mass also included the unveiling and blessing of the Memorial for Most Rev. Michael A. Saltarelli. The Knights of Columbus lead the procession and the military honor guard of VFW Post #475 provided a 21 gun salute.
Little Sisters of the Poor’s Jeanne Jugan Residence in Newark, Delaware provides care and comfort for many or our local elderly. Due to their need of funds for replacement windows and lighting, upgraded heating and many other improvements, the Jeanne Jugan Residence is currently amidst their Share the Care Campaign. The annual 2010 awards dinner was held May 20th to help raise funds for this campaign.
Mark Christian opened the ceremony by thanking everyone for their donations. A silent auction was held to help raise funds. Some items that were auctioned off included jewelry, a coin collection, an American flag, gift baskets and other items. The night was a success due to all involved including those donating their services for the evening. The Doberstein Admissions & Classroom Center was donated for the location of the event by Wilmington University. The entertainment was provided by Sean Reilly “Sinata.” Karl Richeson Photography volunteered to photograph the event for Little Sisters of the Poor. Of the awards given, the “Share the Care Award” went to Charles Mealey Jr. of Mealey Funeral Homes.
Karl Richeson Photography donated their photography services to cover the Bling & Blue Jean Gala. This charity was hosted by the Holy Cross School in Dover, Delaware to benefit their new science lab.
The Green Building Council of HBADE presented the DE Green Fest this year. On Sunday, April 18th the crowds joined us at Legislative Mall in Dover to learn more about being green minded and to have fun. Special events included green home info, green products, live music, story time, building block contest, kids activities, fashion show, speakers, food and energy saving tips. The fashion show featured eco-friendly fashion. A free shred event also took place as well as a clothes donation drop off benefiting the Clothing Closet. Sponsors were Dover Rent All Tents & Events, Bayshore Ford, RPJ Waste Services, Delaware Solid Waste Authority, Fox Rehabilitation, Bestfield Homes, Layton Construction, Bel Boutique, Suntricity Power and Elisio Builders.

The Home Builders Association of Delaware hosted the Spring Home Show in Harrington at the Delaware State Fair Grounds. This is the 6th year the HBA hosted the home show. The show featured exhibits showcasing new homes, building products, landscaping, cabinetry, cleaning systems, flooring, weatherproofing, decorating, security, kitchens, baths, sunrooms and much more. A special interest this was in “going green”. Various builders showcased their new energy efficient insulation, heating, windows and new building techniques.
While I was taking photos at Randy Currie’s new salon in Justison Landing, I decided to get a haircut. They asked me which member of the staff would I like to cut my hair, to which I replied “The first one available, please”. It just so happened that the young woman name was a friend of my family. She was the daughter of my sisters best friend growing up. This was over 40 years ago. It was truly remarkable to hear The nice things she had to say of my sister.
